The concept for (lost at sea) was to be as bare as possible in terms of the technical aspects of the recording. The hope was that such a choice might emulate and enhance the simplicity and (hopefully) vulnerability of the music, giving everyone who listens a unique, personal experience. I recorded the album alone atop a parking garage in the middle of the night using a borrowed mic. That said, there are mistakes, fumbles and foibles in the music. They were accidents, but are included on purpose.

The songs are selected from a much larger pool of work that's been growing since 2009. Some of them were written then, some were written two weeks ago. They are what I believe to be the most truthful, worthwhile music I've written, or played (thank you to the incomparable Joni Mitchell).

After looking at the song list, it struck me how often the theme seems to be one of hope or gratitude in the face of misfortune. I hope listening to these songs imbues you with a sense of both.
